For a draft that is already written
Book editing software that shows its working
Import the manuscript. Get spelling, mechanics, repetition, and readability measured in code, with every finding pointing at the exact line it came from.
- Measured, repeatable
- The same chapter gives the same numbers every run.
- Your style survives
- Fragments and dialect read as choices, not faults.
- Nothing moves on its own
- Every change waits for you to accept it.
Most editing tools hand back a score and leave you guessing what produced it. This shows the measurements underneath, names the rule each finding came from, and points at the paragraph. You decide what is a mistake and what is the effect you were after.
Spelling that knows your invented words
Character and place names from your own story are treated as vocabulary, not typos. British and American spellings both pass. A word you use repeatedly is reported once as deliberate rather than flagged forty times.
Mechanics a copyeditor would mark
Doubled words, dialogue punctuation before a speech tag, unbalanced quotes and brackets, inconsistent dashes and ellipses, spacing errors.
Repetition you stopped hearing
Words echoing close together, runs of sentences opening the same way, and phrases repeating across the whole book rather than one chapter.
Readability as numbers, not a verdict
Sentence length and how much it varies, adverb density, estimated passive voice, dialogue share, reading grade.
How it goes
- 1
Import
.docx, .epub, .pdf, .txt or .md. Chapters are found by their own headings; the file itself is read in memory and never stored.
- 2
Read the findings
Measurements appear beside the text with no waiting and no request leaving the page, because they are arithmetic rather than a model call.
- 3
Change only what you choose
Accept or reject each suggestion. Deliberate repetition survives, because you are the one deciding.
Questions
Does this rewrite my book for me?
No. There is no drafting, no continuation, and no "write the next chapter" anywhere in this product. It reports what is in the manuscript you wrote and proposes edits you can refuse.
Is the analysis done by AI?
The measurements are not. Spelling, mechanics, repetition, and readability are computed arithmetic, which is why they are identical between runs and comparable between drafts. Optional AI suggestions are separate, clearly labelled, and off unless you ask for them.
What happens to my manuscript?
The uploaded file is parsed in memory and never written to storage. Your chapters are saved to your account so you can come back to them. Nothing is used to train anything.
Will it flag my style as an error?
It should not. Sentence fragments, dialect, unconventional punctuation in dialogue, and sentences opening with a conjunction are all treated as choices. What gets flagged is the mechanical stuff a copyeditor marks without thinking.
Does it work on a whole novel?
Yes. Individual chapters give line-level findings, and the whole-book view surfaces the patterns that only exist across chapters, like a phrase you use once per chapter for nine chapters.
Is it free?
The measurements are free. If you already have a WriteWithPaige account, sign in with the same Google account and your manuscripts are already here.
